Betty holds a diploma in Systemic Family Therapy from Mater Misericordiae Hospital and University College Dublin and a diploma in Counselling from the National University Maynooth. Her background is in Mental Health Nursing. She has over 30 years experience working with people with mental health problems in a wide variety of settings.  20 years of this experience is in the field of Counselling and Psychotherapy. She is also experienced in working in a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) modality.

Betty works with families, couples and individuals. Problems worked with include depression, anxiety, childhood trauma, recovery from addictions, bereavement and loss, adaption to life stage and family stage change and coping with separation.

As a systemic therapist Betty explores problems within the context of past and present relationships and experiences. Family/couples therapy is offered when a professional or a family think it would be beneficial to explore their problems together. Family work allows family members to hear each other and to be heard by each other and explore their difficulties and possible solutions together. Betty is also a recognised therapist and supervisor for students on The Psychotherapy Training Programs at Dublin City University.
