 Theresa works with clients who seek help for a wide range of difficulties including childhood or adult trauma, work or relationship problems, eating problems, low self esteem, feelings of isolation, dissatisfaction with one's life, life threatening experiences/trauma, major loss or loss of meaning, problems with coping, anxiety, anger or distress, and life or existential crisis. She has been practicing and studying meditation since 2002 and integrates mindfulness techniques into her work.

Theresa has close to 20 years' experience of working with people in distress, helping them make sense of their experience.  Theresa works in the voluntary sector and also maintains a private practice here at Arduna, where she sees both individuals and couples. She is known for her gentleness and integrity as she supports people to find meaning and make choices that are based on insight and understanding. For Theresa,  safety for the client is of paramount importance.

"Without a feeling of safety we cannot express all that they are, for fear of being judged or shamed, and so we hide many troubling aspects of ourselves from ourselves and from others. However, these troubling aspects can often haunt us and can lead us to feel we are inadequate in some way or not living our lives as fully as we would like, and yet the fear runs so deep we can’t imagine a life without it. In my experience, when we feel safe enough to reveal all of ourselves to another who understands and accepts us exactly as we are, we can begin to befriend these troubling aspects of ourselves, freeing up a tremendous amount of stuck emotional energy, which we can then use for making the changes we desire. Deep change takes time and commitment to oneself, but by learning to become more intimate and gentle with oneself, ones relationship with others and one’s life is also transformed".

"My interest in understanding how one's early life experiences are formative led me to train as a psychotherapist. My engagement with existential issues led me to study and practice meditation in order to understand more deeply who we are. Combined, these trainings deepened my understanding of suffering and how as human beings we adapt as a way of protecting ourselves from pain. These once necessary adaptations can become problematic over time and can cause us to suffer unnecessarily both personally and in our intimate adult relationships. I work to support individuals and couples to make sense of their experiences so they can live more resourcefully in a way that’s personally meaningful for them".
